Google Sites Website

A collaborative effort for a library services project the goal of this project was to help middle school students in Michigan learn about, structure, and practice debates. The site provides information from a variety of sources including websites, videos, magazines, and books with links to multiple topics ranging from the history of debate, to strategies for structuring a debate, to current debate examples. The site helps the user become familiar with debate guidelines, gain confidence in choosing and researching a debate topic, and develop skills for practicing and polishing a debate performance.

Video Book Trailer for
"The Name of This Book is Secret"
by Pseudonymous Bosch

The goal of this project was to develop my booktalking and library promotion skills by creating a video trailer for a work of literature written for middle grade or young adult readers.  Using creative sound and visual effects this brief book trailer is aimed at 2nd-5th graders to create excitement for reading; encouraging my students to check out this book and read it.

The images for this video were created by hand using 'Glow Draw' on an iPhone and then imported to and edited in '
iMovie' on a MacBook Pro.  All elements of this video are licensed under Creative Commons attributions.

Video Book Review for
"Toys to Tools: Connecting Student Cell Phones to Education"  by Liz Kolb

The goal of this project was to keep pace with educational trends by selecting a professional book on an interesting aspect of K-12 education.  This video book review summarizes the key points of my chosen book and suggests how a school librarian could connect his/her practice beyond collection development to help meet the goals outlined in the book.

The images for this video were created using 'Notes', 'Messages' and screenshots on an iPhone and then imported to and edited in 'iMovie' on an iPhone.

Professional Development Webinar

The goal of this project was to work in a team of three to develop, host, and produce a webinar as a professional development tool for librarians.  This 30-minute webinar addresses how both public and school librarians in rural communities can help students be successful in their college search process by providing services to these patrons that address academic, social, and financial issues.

The slides in this webinar were created as a 'Google Presentation' and converted to 'PowerPoint' slides which were then uploaded into 'Blackboard Collaborate'.  After the webinar was recorded it was converted into an .mp4 in 'Illuminate Publish' and then uploaded to 'YouTube'.

Screencast Tutorial for GarageBand

The goal of this project was to plan, create, and post an online tutorial using screencasting software that would introduce my 5th grade students to the steps required to record a podcast using 'GarageBand' for a research unit on Ancient West African Civilizations.

The screencast was designed and recorded by me using 'Jing' screencast capture software.

Multi-media Presentation

In collaboration with the IB English cohort of teachers, I designed and presented a lesson to a class of 11th grade students highlighting the college application process.   After reviewing materials provided by the teachers and various articles on the topic, I created a multi-media Google Presentation to inform students and to promote interaction between students.
